Origins -- The Originators of Burlwood

When the originators of Burlwood saw the driftwood stumps, logging waste and windfall timber on the beaches and in the woods of Northern California, they saw more than just the scattered remains of nature.

They recognized a resource waiting to be put to use. In the 1960's what might have been one of the first redwood burl tables was built, and thus began an industry unique in foresight, ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Burlwood designs are created exclusively from what used to be called "waste". No living trees are ever cut by the people at Burlwood. It is from the lesser known, but equally majestic interior beauty of the roots and burl of redwoods, maple buckeye and other trees that Burlwood products are created.

Raw materials, found carefully, are transformed by talented craftsmen, who saw, smooth, assemble and hand finish the naturally seasoned wood to a satin luster that captures and freezes forever the unique designs created by nature. Burlwood furnishings have gained an international reputation for quality from our ever growing list of customers, all of whom have discovered and joined the unique world of burl wood.
